BAGHDAD – An Iraqi security official in western Anbar province says militants with the Islamic State group seized a military training camp after clashes with Iraqi soldiers who were forced to withdraw from the area.

The camp is near the town of Hit, which fell at the hands of the insurgents earlier this month. Eyewitnesses confirmed that the camp had been seized Monday.

Meanwhile in Baghdad, police officials say a car bomb exploded near a bus stop, killing nine people and wounding 15. A second bomb, hidden in a vegetable cart, exploded in the Shiite-majority neighbourhood of Sadr City, killing four people and wounding 18.

Hospital officials confirmed the casualties. All officials spoke on the condition of anonymity as they are not authorized to brief journalists.
