VANCOUVER – Investigators were back on the scene this morning after a massive fire broke out in Vancouver in the area of 49th Avenue and Granville Friday evening.
Just before 7 p.m., crews were called to the scene and 10 minutes later the entire structure was on fire.
The building is still under construction and is called Granville Gardens. It is a seniors’ centre that was slated to open in November. Luckily the building was not occupied so no one was injured in the blaze.

The building was being built by Altima Contracting Ltd and was described as a “boutique care residence for elders.” It housed 62 units, was three storeys and was built with a wooden frame. The building was 80 per cent complete.
It is not known at this time how the fire started, but investigators say the fire does not appear suspicious.
There are still street closures in effect at Granville between 49 Avenue and Churchill.
A number of buses were detoured due to the fire.
