Teenager shot dead in Abbotsford; IHIT investigating

VANCOUVER – Abbotsford Police say a teenager was shot dead in Abbotsford Thursday night. He has now been identified as 18-year-old Harwindip Singh Baringh.

At about 7:45 p.m. police received multiple calls of shots fired in the intersection of Goldfinch Street and Sparrow Drive.

Baringh was found in the passenger seat of a dark-coloured SUV suffering from gunshot wounds. He died at the scene in what police say is a targeted attack.

Police do not currently  have any suspects, but witnesses say they heard one or two vehicles speed away from the area. One vehicle is described as a newer white Acura TL and the other as a dark-coloured sedan.

They are looking looking at surveillance video from the area as well.

“We’re in the earlier stages obviously of this investigation,” said Cst. Ian MacDonald with the Abbotsford Police. “We haven’t ruled anything out at this point but certainly probably too early to make any suggestions as to whether there’s a connection to what we’ve previously deemed the Townline Hill conflict.”

Back in July, Abbotsford Police issued a warning about two groups of  youths and young adults in the area of West Abbotsford becoming a “significant public safety issue.”

More than 25 incidents were reported involving issues between these two groups, which are made up of males aged 15 to 25. The conflict between the two groups have resulted in thousands of dollars of damage to homes and vehicles and predominantly happen late at night.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has now taken over the case.
