UPDATE: IHIT identifies man killed outside elementary school in Richmond

A man killed outside a Richmond elementary school on Oct. 2 has been identified as 25-year-old Theoren Gregory Poitras.

He was living in Richmond at the time of his death but he was known to police in Alberta for his involvement in gang activity.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team say Poitras was found dead in the park surrounding Talmey Elementary School around 12:30 a.m.

The reasons for his death remain a mystery but police say they have identified people of interest.

His cause of death will not be released at this time.

“IHIT can say that evidence retrieved so far supports that this was a targeted homicide” said Sgt. Bari Emam of IHIT.

IHIT is looking for information from anyone who may have been in the area of Talmey Elementary School in Richmond between 11:30 p.m on Oct. 1 and 01:30 a.m. on Oct. 2, who observed any suspicious persons, vehicle or circumstances to please call the IHIT Tipline at 1-877-551-4448 or contact them by email at ihittipline@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
