Incumbent Frank Di Giorgio has beaten challenger John Nunziata in a close race for the Ward 12 York South-Weston council seat.
Di Giorgio had 29 per cent of the vote to Nunziata’s 27.5 per cent in early results. Only 238 votes separated the two.
Nunziata filed his nomination papers just ahead of the Sept. 12 deadline. He served three terms as a Member of Parliament, representing the federal riding of York South-Weston as a Liberal MP and later (after being expelled from the Liberal caucus) as an independent MP.
John Nunziata’s sister, Frances Nunziata, served as councillor for Ward 11 and as council speaker last term. She was re-elected tonight.
