Winnipeg DJ who disappeared now charged with child sex offences

WINNIPEG – Local DJ Chris “Shecky” Elwick, who disappeared a week ago but was found Saturday, has been charged with sexual assault on a minor. He’s currently free on bail.

A missing person bulletin for Elwick was sent out by Winnipeg police on Friday; officers said he was last seen Tuesday and they were concerned for his well-being. Police reported Saturday that he’d been found safely in Portage la Prairie.

The DJ was charged Sunday with sexual assault on a child under the age of 16 and sexual interference. Those charges date back to 2009-10; he’s also charged with possession of child pornography videos in 2013.

Elwick most recently worked at Winnipeg radio station Energy 106; he had also worked in the past for Power 97.

He appeared in court Monday and was granted bail, with several conditions including not going near areas where children could be present, not accessing the internet, and not going near the alleged victim in the case.

The charges against Elwick have not been proven in court. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 3rd.
