SASKATOON – Football players in northern Saskatchewan will receive funding due to sponsorship agreement with Cameco.

The Saskatoon-based uranium producer announced last week it is providing $30,000 over the next three seasons to support over 200 players.

Ten northern high school teams will be able to allocate their share of these funds for additional equipment, field improvements and player development.

Northern Saskatchewan Football teams will wear a ‘Powered by Cameco’ patch on their jerseys.

Cameco says this sponsorship is a continuation of its partnership with football in northern Saskatchewan and is looking forward to helping the game grow further for the next three years.

“We want to make a difference in northern Saskatchewan communities. We have seen great examples of the pride within the players and educators involved with northern Saskatchewan football,” said Jonathan Huntington, Cameco’s manager of communications and community investment.

The season starts in September and ends with the West playing the East division in playoffs in November.

Northern Lights School Division Superintendent of Education Mark Williment says the league has already seen tremendous success with better student performance and citizenship within the communities.
