KELOWNA, B.C. — A Kelowna family is living in fear after their dogs were brutally attacked.
Charlene Wiebe and Lyle Grexton woke up Tuesday morning to find blood spilled all over their property.
The owners aren’t sure how their pets were attacked, but suspect the dogs were struck with a large sharp-edged weapon.
“At first I figured it was a machete, but I think there was an axe and machete were involved because the way the skull is crushed,” says Grexton, describing the wounds to one of his dogs.
The couple suspects the attacker was familiar with their dogs and knew their property.
Last weekend, Grexton was allegedly assaulted. Today, a friend of his has been arrested, facing assault charges.
“We’re investigating the possibility that these two incidents are related,” says Constable Kris Clark.
Two dogs are recovering from the wounds, while their eight-year-old rottweiler has died from a loss of blood.
