HALIFAX – Family, friends and complete strangers gathered at Alderney Landing Tuesday evening to pray for Catherine “Catie” Miller and shine a spotlight on her disappearance.

Miller, described as 5′ 8″ with shoulder length brown hair has been missing since July 15. She has a three-year-old son. Police say the investigation into her disappearance is ongoing but are releasing few details, even to her parents.

Dozens attended Tuesday’s vigil where Miller’s mother Terry Miller sang a song called One Day at a Time by Kris Kristofferson, she said it’s become the theme song to her life as she waits, and hopes, for her daughter’s safe return.

The Halifax Regional Police said investigators aren’t ruling anything out as they continue the search, but John Miller said he doesn’t think his daughter ran away.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“We gained access to her apartment about two and a half weeks ago and became aware of a few more things that led us to believe that she didn’t plan on going anywhere,” John said. “There were fresh baked cookies and I think if you’re going to go somewhere and you bake cookies, you take them with you or you don’t bake them, and there was a cat that was not fed and she always loved cats, and of course she has a son who she loved very much.”

Miller’s parents said they held the vigil in part to make sure the public doesn’t forget their daughter is still missing. Both parents pleaded with those in attendance to spread the word about Miller’s disappearance. Miller’s mother repeatedly told well wishers: “someone’s got to know something.”

The public awareness campaign into Miller’s disappearance has gone national with chain stores like Loblaws putting up posters in stores across the country, but so far no tips have led to a break in the case.

At the vigil Terry reached out to her daughter through prayer.

“We join together tonight in between worlds of hope and despair,” read Terry. “May we find comfort in each other’s presence as we pray for Catie, may the bonds of love and concern that we build this evening reach out to her.”

Anyone with information about Miller’s disappearance is asked to contact their local police department or submit a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
