Langley RCMP are looking into an accident that claimed the life of an 83-year-old man tonight.

Police were called to the intersection of 198B Street and 72 Avenue at approximately 7 p.m. Their initial investigation showed a westbound vehicle collided with two pedestrians crossing 72nd Street from the north side of the road.

Both pedestrians were rushed to hospital by Air Ambulance where the male victim died of his injuries. The female pedestrian, 79, sustained non-life threatening injuries and is still in hospital.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene and is cooperating with police.

According to police, alcohol or speed do not appear to be factors in the accident. Witnesses say the setting sun may have caused an issue for the driver’s visibility.

Langley RCMP Traffic Services have taken over the investigation and Integrated Collision Analyst and Reconstruction Service were also on the scene.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call Langley RCMP.
