NEAR FINTRY – A fire Monday morning has destroyed a home in a rural area of the north Okanagan.
North Westside Fire Rescue got a report just after 9:00 a.m. of flames and smoke coming from a home on Pinecrest Road in the Westshore Estates sub-division just off Westside Road.
When crews arrived flames were shooting through the roof.
A neighbour tells Global Okanagan News the adult male resident ran from the home yelling “fire” and admitted to cooking marijuana oil.
Police say they will investigate that allegation.
The neighbour says the man re-entered the home to obtain possessions and suffered serious burns to his face, arms and hands.
He then sped off in a vehicle and authorities are trying to contact him.
The house had reportedly been raided within the past year for a grow-op.
