Float plane crashes off coast of Vancouver Island; pilot escapes injury

A float plane crashed off the coast of Vancouver Island on August 26, 2014.

A pilot managed to walk away unscathed after his plane crashed while trying to land off the coast of Vancouver Island this morning.

The accident happened just before 10:30 a.m. in Maple Bay near Duncan, B.C. The pilot was the only person on board and was rescued by a passing boater.

The Coast Guard towed the plane to the dock at Maple Bay and put up a boom to contain any leaking fuel.

There has been no information released on the pilot or the type of aircraft involved in the accident.

The cause of the crash is unknown.
