WATCH: Cristiano Ronaldo stars in bizarre Japanese ad for facial workout machine

International soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo wants to make sure you have a fit face.

At least, that’s what we think is happening in this offbeat Japanese TV commercial that’s become a viral hit.

Ever wonder what would happen if you mixed one part Shake Weight (remember that?), one part offbeat Japanese commercial, and one part Cristiano Ronaldo?

You get this: an ad for something called the Facial Fitness Pao.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

According to manufactures MTG (who’s equally intriguing slogan is “We Have Many Dreams”), the Facial Fitness Pao is designed to “bring out your best and most youthful smile” by exercising the muscles in your face.

This is accomplished by inserting the device in your mouth, then vigorously shaking your head while the weighted ends of the Facial Fitness Pao react to your movements like a moustache on steroids.

Since measuring athletic improvement of the facial muscles is a dubious proposition at best, the manufactures claim this exercise will make the user look younger, by helping to reduce smile lines and wrinkles.

“In my everyday training sessions, there is one area of the body that I hadn’t been exercising: my facial muscles,” Ronaldo “writes” in a testimonial on the company’s website.

“Pao facial fitness is a fun way for building up your facial muscles and shaping your smile.”

Sadly, the Real Madrid striker isn’t seen using the device himself in the commercial, a development which likely would have broken the internet.
