Kelowna brothers appear in court on murder charges

A pair of brothers allegedly involved in the beating death of a Kelowna man made an appearance in court Thursday morning.

Daniel Joseph McRae, 20, and Matthew Thomas McRae, 19, appeared at the Kelowna courthouse on charges of second degree murder.

The Kelowna brothers are two of seven people accused in the brutal murder of Dain Phillips, 51, in Rutland in June.

Phillips was reportedly beaten to death with baseball bats and hammers while trying to settle a dispute between his adult sons and the McRae brothers.

Robert Charles Cocks, 52, Norman Robert Cocks, 31, Robert Leonard Thomas, 46, Thomas Allen Vaughan, 22, and Anson Lloyd Schell, 19, also are charged with murder in Phillips’ death.

Thomas and Norman Robert Cocks are full patch members of the Kelowna Hells Angels.

Robert Charles Cocks is the president of the Throttle Lockers motorcycle club, which is affiliated with the Hells Angels.
