CALGARY- Calgarians love to complain about traffic, and now there’s a way they can also oust terrible parkers.

A Twitter account called YYCs Worst Parking has been created by an Edmonton man, following the success of a similar account in Alberta’s capital. @DBagParkingYYC was created on July 3, and already has nearly 900 followers.

Drivers are now racing to send in their photos, to publicly shame those who literally can’t stay in between the lines.

“It can be cathartic to vent, and even more so when you know a large audience is listening,” says founder Brian LaBelle, in an e-mail to Global News. “A lot of people are inconvenienced and offended by people taking up two, three, six stalls, and I think they enjoy being able to vent and share their frustration with other Twitter followers.”

While the Twitter account has served as a place to make fun of fellow drivers, it is also making some people rethink their actions on the road.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“On the first day I had three different mothers send in pictures of their vehicle with other vehicles parked so close they were unable to put their child in the back. When I retweeted those, a few people (mostly younger/newer drivers without kids) tweeted and said they didn’t even consider that the cars next to them may need to load a kid in them, and they were going to do better in the future,” LaBelle explains.

“That was a great message to hear, and hopefully we can change some people’s sense of entitlement and show some more respect and consideration for the other people in their community.”
