EDMONTON – A body found in the North Saskatchewan River in Edmonton on Wednesday morning is that of a 22-year-old man who disappeared while swimming in Devon on July 13.

Edmonton police responded to a complaint of a body found in the North Saskatchewan River Wednesday morning.

Devon RCMP and the Edmonton Medical Examiners office identified the deceased as the 22-year-old man who disappeared while swimming in the North Saskatchewan River on July 13 in Devon.

Police say the man and a friend were wading across the river Sunday afternoon – near the Devon bridge – when the man was caught by the undercurrent and pulled away.

A witness said the man’s friend tried to hold on to him, but was unable due to the strength of the current.

RCMP, the Devon and Edmonton fire departments, as well as a STARS helicopter searched the river Sunday night but didn’t find the man.
