Edmonton police issue Canada-wide warrant issued for homicide suspect
EDMONTON – Police are searching for Richard Joseph Lacarte. The 47-year-old is wanted in relation to the March death of Demetrios Karahalios, whose friends called him a pillar of Edmonton’s gay community.
Karahalios, 48, was found dead inside a home in the city’s Oliver neighbourhood on March 8, 2014. The cause of his death has never been released “due to the ongoing investigation.”
The man accused of second-degree murder in connection with his death is described as being a Caucasian male, who is 5’9″ tall and weighs 150 pounds. He has brown eyes, grey hair, and is missing some teeth, according to police. He may also have a beard.
Lacarte is described as being a drifter, who has lived at several addresses across the country.
The public is asked not to approach Lacarte if they should see him, but instead to contact the Edmonton Police Service (780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone). Anonymous information can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
Karahalios’ death was Edmonton’s fifth homicide of 2014.
