TORONTO — Actor Meshach Taylor, best known for his role on the comedy series Designing Women, died Saturday night after a long battle with cancer. He was 67.
Taylor’s family confirmed he died at his home in Altadena, California with his wife Bianca, four adult children and his mother at his side.
Two days before he died, Taylor’s family posted a message on Facebook. “It is with love and gratitude that we sorrowfully announce that our darling, amazingly brilliant and dynamic, Meshach, the incredible father, husband, son and friend has begun his grand transition.”
The Boston-born actor played Anthony Bouvier on Designing Women from 1986 to 1993 opposite Dixie Carter, Delta Burke, Annie Potts and Jean Smart.
He also played flamboyant window dresser Hollywood Montrose in the 1987 movie Mannequin.
Taylor also had a number of theatre credits, including work with Chicago’s Goodman Theater and Organic Theater Company.
