A 32-year-old man has been charged with attempted abduction of a four-year-old girl.
Surrey RCMP say on Saturday, June 21, they received a call at about 2:15 p.m. from a man saying that another man had just attempted to abduct his young daughter from Holland Park in Central Surrey.
The father called police after he noticed a man speaking to his daughter in the playground. The father approached his daughter and asked her what the man said, and then he confronted the man and insisted he leave.
The suspect eventually left but returned a few minutes later after changing his clothing. He then approached the father and daughter and began to shout at the father, causing others to call the police.
When police arrived the suspect attempted to flee on a bike, but was caught a few blocks away.
Thirty-two-year-old Adam Richard Beedle was arrested and charged with one count of uttering a threat, one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of attempted abduction of a person under 14.
He is currently in custody.
“The father in this case did the right thing, he was keeping an eye on his child in the park, intervened when he was suspicious of an issue and when the situation became elevated he called police”, says Sgt. Dale Carr of the Surrey RCMP.
This is not the first time Beedle has been in trouble with the police.
He was charged with theft under $5,000 when he attempted to steal a woman’s purse on the SkyTrain last May.
