EDMONTON – Edmonton-Calder MLA David Eggen is the first official candidate for leadership of Alberta’s New Democratic Party.
Eggen filed his his nomination papers at the NDP’s head office in downtown Edmonton Friday morning.

The MLA, a former teacher, has been elected to the legislature twice, first in 2004 and again in 2012, after losing his seat in 2008.
On April 29, Brian Mason announced he will step down as party leader at a convention on October 18.
This is the first provincial NDP leadership race since 2003.
