A mom whose baby was found at 3 a.m. in a stroller in the middle of a street said she “forgot” her daughter was with her, Brandon police say.
Police were called about the baby at about 3 a.m. Thursday and found the seven-month-old in the stroller on 17th Street North, the Manitoba police force reported.
Police found her 23-year-old mother a few blocks away and she told them she was high on pills and “forgot” her daughter was with her, a news release said.
The baby was taken to Brandon Regional Health Centre as a precaution and then taken into custody of Child and Family Services.
No other children were found in custody of the mother, nor in her home.
The mom will face a charge of abandoning a child in Brandon court on July 31.
Brandon is a city of about 50,000 located 200 kilometres west of Winnipeg.
