TORONTO – The three party leaders campaign in the Toronto and Niagara areas today.

Premier Kathleen Wynne visits schools in Markham and Pickering, NDP Leader Andrea Horwath has an event at a Toronto bakery, and Tory Leader Tim Hudak makes stops at businesses in Niagara Falls and Fenwick.

In campaigning in Tuesday, Wynne said the Liberals won’t merge the public and Catholic school systems as other provinces have done if they’re re-elected June 12.

The controversial and politically toxic issue came up after the Liberal candidate in Sudbury said he thought amalgamation is a great idea.

Hudak said the deficit left behind by the last Progressive Conservative government is nothing more than Liberal propaganda, but Wynne responded by accusing Hudak of rewriting Ontario’s history.

Shortly after taking office in 2003, the Liberals discovered the outgoing Tories, who had insisted the books were balanced, in fact had left a fiscal shortfall of $5.6 billion.

Horwath, meanwhile, said the governing Liberals remain “rife with corruption” no matter who is at the helm.

She says only a change of government will bring transparency and accountability to Queen’s Park after years of Liberal scandals.

The NDP leader has repeatedly blasted the Liberals for cancelling two gas plants – a move that could eventually cost the province up to $1.1 billion.

Wynne is suing Hudak over comments he made in March suggesting she “possibly ordered” the alleged destruction of government documents related to the gas plants scandal.
