Winnipeg magician Darcy Oake makes ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ semi-finals

WINNIPEG – Darcy Oake, who wowed the Britain’s Got Talent judges with an audition in which he made multiple birds magically appear, will be in the hit show’s semi-finals Monday night.

The magician found out Sunday he had moved on to the semi-finals and will appear on the show live to attempt to advance to the next stage.

The Canadian has become a YouTube star on the strength of his audition, which has had more than 24 million views.

Oake tweeted that he’s excited about Monday’s show and laughed at the focus of a story about him in the Daily Star.

Oake, whose father is sportscaster Scott Oake, has worked as a magician for years but decided to audition for Britain’s Got Talent to increase his profile.

“If it goes well, it can change the game,” he said in April about his decision to fly to the U.K. to audition.

“You are without question the best magician we’ve ever had on the show,” judge Simon Cowell said after Oake performed on the episode that aired April 19. “I think that we’ve uncovered a star with you. I really do.”
