Geography

The riding comprises the southern Thunder Bay and the area west of the city and extends west to Atikokan. The riding includes anything south of the Harbour Expressway in Thunder Bay and a few rural areas north of the city.

The riding has been held by the Liberals for 27 years, first by Lyn McLeod from 1987 to 2003, then by current MPP Bill Mauro. The last two elections have been quite close however with Mauro defeating the NDP challenger by under 100 votes in 2007 and 500 votes in 2011.
