A gigantic riding in York region, Oak Ridges-Markham was created in 2005 to service parts of the region that weren’t densely populated – including north Richmond Hill, north Markham, and Whitchuch-Souttville. Close to 100,000 people have moved to the riding since 2005, and Oak Ridges-Markham is now 20,000 people larger than any other riding in Ontario.

History

Liberal Helena Jaczek has won this riding in both elections it has been contested, winning by almost 5,000 votes over the Tories in 2011 and 7,000 votes in 2007.

By the numbers

Sixty-one per cent of people over 15 are married in this riding, the third highest margin in the province. Chinese, Cantonese or Mandarin is the mother tongue of just over 20 per cent of people here, according to the 2011 census.
