Geography

The central-west Mississauga riding lies mostly between Mavis Road to the east, Dundas Street to the south, North Line to the west and Eglinton Avenue to the north, with the exception of a few blocks around Credit Valley Golf and Country Club, and the area east of Erin Mills Parkway and south of Britannia Road.

History

Liberal MPP Harinder Takhar was elected to his third term in 2011 with a margin of more than 4,000 votes over his Progressive Conservative challenger. The area was held by the Tories from 1995-2003 and the Liberals from 1987 to 1995.

Takhar was going to retire last year but changed his mind.

By the numbers

Mississauga-Erindale grew by 12.1 per cent between the 2006 and 2011 census, the largest increase in Mississauga. Urdu is the second most common language here, with 6.71 per cent of people identifying it as their mother tongue.
