Geography

The riding spans all of Etobicoke north of Dixon Road and is, as the name suggests, the most northern of Etobicoke’s three ridings.

History

Liberal Shafiq Qaadri was elected for a third term in 2011, defeating Progressive Conservative candidate Karim Singh by more than 6,000 votes. His 24.2 per cent margin of victory was his smallest yet. However, the northern Etobicoke area has supported candidates from all parties in the past, including PC MPP John Hastings from 1995 to 2003 and NDP EPP Ed Philip from 1975 to 1995.

By the numbers

The most linguistically diverse of Etobicoke’s ridings, only 41.5 per cent listed English as their mother tongue in the 2011 census. The median age of 35.6 is the eighth youngest in southern Ontario, and the average household size of 3.2 is 10th largest.
