Police seek ‘person of interest’ in multi-vehicle arson investigation

TORONTO – A security video of a “person of interest” has been released by police in relation to an arson investigation that destroyed multiple vehicles in an upscale Toronto neighbourhood last week.

Toronto police say they are looking to identify the individual who was seen walking past a home wearing a dark knapsack, dark pants, shirt and a ball cap in the early morning hours of May 9.

The person of interest appears to be holding a cup or bottle in his left hand and has a distinct walk.

The fires began just after 3:30 a.m. near the Moore Park neighbourhood close to Bayview Avenue and Moore Avenue.

Police say nine cars were set on fire, including a garage. No one was injured during the incidents.

Investigators say a store nearby called the Hasty Market was also broken into about the same time as the suspected arson.

Video surveillance from nearby businesses say the individual is described as a white male in his 40s, wearing dark clothing, a ball cap and yellow running shoes.

Police say the two incidents may be related.
