WINNIPEG – The man killed in a triple shooting outside a downtown nightclub early Sunday was Winnipegger Rustom Paclipan, 23, police have confirmed.
Paclipan was found shot outside Opera Ultralounge on Main Street at Bannatyne Avenue following reports of men fighting at about 2 a.m. He was rushed to hospital and died.
Two other men, aged 18 and 24, were wounded in the gunfire, police said.
The man working at a nearby hot dog stand tells Global News he had to hide behind his cart to avoid bullets. He and other witnesses are being encouraged by police to step forward, “it might just be small pieces of information but if you did happen to see anything shortly before or if you witnessed the incident, please contact us,” said Det. Sgt. Natalie Aitken. “That really helps to bring this case forward and carry on with the investigation.”
A Facebook page for a Rustom Paclipan identifies him as an aircraft maintenance engineering student at Red River College.
The homicide unit is investigating. This is Winnipeg’s ninth homicide of 2014.
