New record set for most guitars simultaneously playing Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Hey Joe’

Thousands of guitarists gathered in the market square of the Polish town of Wroclaw on Thursday, and attempted to break the world record for the number of people playing simultaneously the Jimi Hendrix song “Hey Joe.”

This year the musicians numbered 7-thousand-344, managing to beat their own record of 7-thousand-273 guitars, set last year.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

It is yet to be confirmed whether the record is official and whether any officials from the Guinness World Records attended the event.

The May 1 event, part of the Thanks Jimi Festival, is in its 12th year and is becoming a cult event, attracting people from across Poland and the rest of Europe.

On stage this year were two vintage rock bands from the US, Eric Burdon and The Animals, and Uriah Heep.

The event was also attended by American guitarist Michael Angelo Batio, as well as by virtuoso guitarists from Poland.
