WATCH: Ancient burial ground may have been uncovered

OSOYOOS — It’s a place to relax for those seeking a getaway. But more than a hundred years ago, it may have also been the final resting place for a First Nations community.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

It’s now known as Haynes Point Provincial Park in Osoyoos.

On Tuesday, construction workers were digging a large hole to install some septic tanks when they stumbled across human remains.

The province’s archaeology branch, BC Parks and Osoyoos Indian Band are now working together to examine the site.

They believe they may find more ancestral remains.
