Cold weather returns with freezing rain, ice and snow in the GTA

TORONTO – Temperatures have plunged to below freezing in Southern Ontario as a sharp Arctic cold front moves its way through the region Tuesday.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for most of southern Ontario, warning people to be prepared for a temperatures drop and strong wind gusts.

As it turns colder, rain is expected to change to freezing rain and ice pellets and then to snow over southern Ontario by morning, and over eastern Ontario through Tuesday.

Environment Canada says five to 10 centimetres of snow was expected across much of southern Ontario for the morning commute and over Eastern Ontario through the day.

Ten to 15 centimetres was are expected for some areas east of Georgian Bay. The forecast called for the snow to end over all regions by late Tuesday.

The high for Tuesday in the Greater Toronto Area will be just 1 C with a low of -5 C. Wednesday’s high will be 2 C, and then more seasonal temperatures will move in by Thursday.
