SaskPower is still waiting to hear whether it will get its requested three-year rate increase – 5.5 per cent in 2014, five per cent in 2015 and five per cent in 2016.

President and CEO Robert Watson says the 2014 budget is based on the rate hike going through.

Watson says the rate increase is almost entirely for capital projects and some of that work may have to be delayed if the change isn’t approved.

Bill Boyd, minister responsible for SaskPower, says people may not like higher power costs, but he says he hopes they understand that aging infrastructure needs to be rebuilt.
