KELOWNA — The re-trial of the man accused of killing a Kelowna college student in 1993 will be held in Kamloops.
On Monday, a BC Supreme Court Justice approved a Change of Venue application by Neil Snelson’s lawyer who argued media publicity from Snelson’s first trial tainted the local jury pool, precluding Snelson from getting a fair trial in Kelowna.
In October 2011, Snelson was convicted of manslaughter in the death of 19-year-old Jennifer Cusworth.
He was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
But the verdict was overturned on appeal because the judge was wrong to allow the jury to hear a portion of Snelson’s interview with police.
Despite the acquittal, Snelson remains in prison pending his new trial as he’s not applied for bail.
The trial date has not yet been set.
