Toronto police arrest 2 in shooting death of 33-year-old woman

Toronto police have charged two men with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a 33-year-old woman in Scarborough Saturday night.

Police say officers responded to reports of gunshots around 11 p.m. on Forest Creek Parkway, near Morningside Avenue and Old Finch Road in Scarborough.

Police say Andrea White was in her garage with family and friends when a white SUV drove by her house, made a u-turn and then drove by again.  Someone began shooting at the house from the car. White was wounded. She was helped into her home by her family and friends, where she died.

Police say the vehicle drove off. Later, an OPP cruiser tried to stop the SUV at Highway 401 and Avenue Road, but the driver refused to stop. The SUV fled northbound on Bathurst Street before the occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. One of the occupants was captured after a short chase. The other surrendered to police a few hours later.

Police say they recovered a gun in the Highway 401 and Avenue Road area.

Police believe the house was targeted but they don’t know whether White was the intended victim.

Michael Davani, 21, and Alwayne Bigby, 23, are facing charges of first-degree murder.

They will appear in court tomorrow.

The killing is Toronto’s 18th homicide of the year.
