“What are you up to out there? You’ve been keeping a whole bunch of secrets,” said Trevor Linden’s mom when he called her Wednesday morning to tell her about his new job.

Linden was on his way to Rogers Arena for an announcement that he was going to be the new president of hockey operations for the Vancouver Canucks.

“It’s probably a good thing,” said his mom, “I’m not very good at, sometimes I let things slip.”

She asked him to call the house phone so his dad could listen to the news as well.

“You’ve got to put your mom on the payroll for your scout here in the junior league in southern Alberta,” quipped his dad.

Right before the press conference Wednesday morning, Linden called his mentor Pat Quinn.

“It was a special call and I think he was about the same age as me when he took this job back in 1987, so I told him if I can do the type of things he did in hockey I’d be pretty happy with that,” said Linden on the Noon News.

“The only skill that Pat had, he always treated people with respect,” said Linden. “Regardless of who it was, he may not have agreed with you or may not have liked the way you played a certain game or did something but he treated you with respect and that’s super important.”
