Globalnews.ca has been named a finalist for the Canadian Journalism Foundation’s Excellence in Journalism Award.
The annual award recognizes “ideals of journalistic excellence,” the foundation says – accuracy, independence, accountability to the audience, courage and originality.
“The range of nominations we received for both large and small media highlight the many different ways news organizations are adapting to the dramatic changes sweeping over the industry,” jury chair and Carleton University School of Journalism director Chris Waddell was quoted as saying in a press release.
“The nominees are all examples of innovations in coverage and relations with audiences matched with a sharp focus on the traditional strengths of influential and distinctive journalism.”
Other organizations nominated along with globalnews.ca in the national media category are the Toronto Star, CTV News, the Winnipeg Free Press and CP Picture Service.
Global Calgary was nominated in the local/regional media category along with CBC Edmonton, CBC New Brunswick, Global Calgary, L’Écho de Frontenac and the Vancouver Observer.
The winner will be announced June 4 at the CJF Awards in Toronto.
