Your guide to La Pinière’s 2014 provincial election race

On Monday April 7, Global News will have up-to-the-minute live Quebec election results, with a live blog starting at 6 p.m. and a live-streaming election special beginning at 8 p.m. after the polls close.

Meet the candidates in La Pinière’s election race

There are six candidates running in the riding:

Independent: Fatima Houda-Pepin (incumbent)

Quebec Liberal Party: Gaétan Barrette

Coalition Avenir Quebec: Jin Kim

Quebec Solidaire: Johane Beaupré

Option Nationale: François Létourneau-Prézeau

Parti conservateur du Québec: Sebastian Fernandez

Find out more about the riding

Although typically considered a Liberal stronghold since its creation in 1989, La Piniere is now considered a possible swing riding to watch.

Former Quebec Liberal Party member Fatima Houda-Pepin held the riding for almost 20 years before she declared herself as an independent in 2014. She is running against Gaétan Barrette, who switched from the Coalition Avenir Quebec to join the Liberal Party in early March.

Population: 79,140

Electors: 58,360

2012 voter turnout: 72.13%

1995 referendum vote: Yes: 33.1%; No: 66.9%

On April 7, 2014, polling stations will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. To find your local polling station, click here.

You must be entered on the Quebec list of electors in order to vote. When heading to the poll station, remember to bring either your driver’s licence, health insurance card, Canadian passport, Treaty status card or Canadian Forces ID.
