Ladner woman resorts to putting up posters to find kidney donor for her sister

WATCH (above): A family that’s looking for a kidney donor in Vancouver is doing so in a very different way. Jill Bennett explains.

Beryl Nicol has been putting up posters asking strangers to save her sister’s life for two and a half years now.

Nicol says her sister Edith is in desperate need for a kidney transplant.

Two years ago, their father passed away from kidney failure, and Edith is battling the same condition.

She receives daily kidney dialysis, and Nicol says her sister’s quality of life is severely impacted. She suffers from chronic fatigue, shortness of breath and low blood pressure.

Nicol says their entire family has been tested, but no one is healthy enough to be a donor.

Edith is on the waiting list for a kidney, but Nicol says it could take up to ten years.

“That is why I am trying to find someone who is healthy and can donate a kidney,” she says.

Nicol has been putting up posters in her hometown of Ladner, but also in Tsawwassen, Richmond and Vancouver.

She says a few people have called back and offered to help put up posters, but still no one who can give her a kidney.

But Nicol refuses to give up. She says she will keep putting up posters for as long as it takes to find someone who can donate a kidney to her sister.

Anyone interested in helping Edith is asked to email at kidneydonor2012@yahoo.ca or call 604-946-1174.
