Thousands attend Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in Vancouver

Saint Patrick’s Day is officially celebrated Monday, but thousands of people braved the rain dressed in green Sunday to attend the 10th annual parade in Vancouver.

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade began at Howe and Davie streets at 11 a.m., winding north to Georgia Street, ending at Granville Street.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Festival organizers estimated more than 200,000 attended the parade to cheer on more than 2,000 participants.

The parade included Celtic musicians, Scottish and Irish dancers, acrobats and the Vancouver police motorcycle drill team and pipe band, as well as mounted horse drill teams.

Plenty of pubs and restaurants marked the day with green beer and cocktails.

Traffic in the area is expected to be affected until Sunday afternoon.
