TORONTO – One person is dead after his pickup truck crashed into a public transit bus in Whitby.
The two vehicles collided near Kirby Crescent and Nichol Avenue just after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The Durham Transit bus lost control and ended up in a nearby ravine.
The bus wasn’t carrying many passengers – only three people were on board – but one was taken to hospital while the others were treated on scene for minor injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 46-year-old Stouffville man, was seriously injured, during the crash and was taken to hospital. He was later transported to another hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Traffic in the area could be slow for several hours as police investigate and crews work to pull the bus out of the ravine.
