Woman, 61, dies after serious crash in Markham

TORONTO – A 61-year-old woman from Markham was killed during a serious crash Wednesday morning.

The crash happened shortly after 11 a.m. on 14th avenue near ninth line when a car, driving in poor conditions, spun out and hit another car.

In total, three cars were involved in the accident, which occurred “due to snow conditions,” according to York Regional Police Cst. Andy Pattenden.

Police are urging drivers to drive with caution as a winter storm moves through southern Ontario.

“Road conditions were great yesterday but they’ve deteriorated drastically today. The roads are slippery,” Cst. Pattenden said Wednesday. “We’re urging everyone to drive carefully out there.”

Police are investigation and surrounding roads are expected to be closed for several hours while police reconstruct the accident.
