Cain, a data journalist, scoured databases for Ontario births and abortions, tracking down every birth from 1991 to 2011. He also took postal codes into account to map out where these births and abortions were taking place. Meanwhile, Chai interviewed researchers, doctors and fertility specialists.

The data helped to tell a story about birth patterns, their ties to the economy, sex education and advances in sexual reproduction.
