Rob Ford tries to turn back time in Daylight Saving Twitter gaffe

As the rest of Canada prepared to set their clocks ahead one hour for Daylight Saving Time Sunday morning, Toronto mayor Rob Ford offered some different advice via his Twitter account.

On Saturday, he tweeted “Daylight Saving Time starts this evening, turn your clocks back and change batteries in smoke alarms.”

The Daylight Savings Time mistake and reference to “smoke alarms” had Twitter buzzing with jokes.

The tweet was deleted Saturday night and replaced with a correct version. No explanation was provided for the gaffe.

According to reports, Ford’s receptionist and social media manager Tom Beyer resigned Friday. It is not known whether Ford himself or someone else has now taken over the mayor’s Twitter account.
