Julie Paskall’s murder remains ‘top priority’ for RCMP investigators

More than two months after the unsolved murder of Surrey hockey mom Julie Paskall, the city’s police chief says it remains a top priority for investigators.

RCMP Chief Superintendent Bill Fordy was speaking at a gathering of local business leaders, but would not say if police were close to making an arrest in the case.

Despite 2013 marking a new record for homicides in Surrey, Fordy said the overall crime rate is actually going down.

Earlier this year, Mayor Dianne Watts announced Surrey would budget for 24 new police officers over the next two years.

“We’re working through the steps systemically to ensure that if and when we do make an arrest, we have a successful prosecution and that justice is served to the people or persons responsible, sentenced appropriately,” said Fordy.
