TAMPA, Fla. – The first deal of NHL trade deadline day is a big one.

A source tells The Canadian Press that the Tampa Bay Lightning are sending forward Martin St. Louis to the New York Rangers for forward Ryan Callahan and two draft picks.

St. Louis reportedly asked general manager Steve Yzerman for a trade after Team Canada’s executive director left him off the initial 25-man roster for the Sochi Olympics.

The 38-year-old winger, who was eventually named to the roster as an injury replacement for Steven Stamkos, has a no-trade clause and could control his destination.

That destination is New York, where he’ll replace a pending unrestricted free agent in Callahan on right wing.

Reports indicate the Lightning also get a first- and a conditional second-round pick in the deal.
