Record number of would-be riders denied HandyDART service

New numbers show a record number of people are being denied HandyDART service.

The advocate group HandyDART Riders Alliance says there were more than 42,000 cases of people being denied service last year, an eight-fold increase in four years.

The group predicts things will only get worse as the population of older adults and people with disabilities continues to grow.

The provincial government has delayed transit improvements, including HandyDART service increases, pending a transit funding referendum likely to be held next year.
