Vancouver have addressed a shortage on defence by trading enforcer Dale Weise to the Montreal Canadiens for Raphael Diaz.

Diaz, who will play for Switzerland in Sochi, has 11 points in 46 for Montreal this season, playing 18:53 per game, fifth most on the team.

In 128 games with Montreal, Diaz had 41 points. He was signed undrafted in 2011, after playing eight seasons for Zug of the Switzerland National League.

Weise had three goals and 12 points in 44 games this year for Vancouver. He has 26 points total in 152 games since being signed for the Canucks in 2011.

The Canucks have been hit hard with injuries to their defence corps in recent weeks.

Chris Tanev is out until the Olympics, reportedly with a broken thumb, and Kevin Bieksa is out indefinitely.
