An elderly man charged in a high profile murder last summer has passed away.

Reports say 95-year-old John Furman passed away in a Kamloops palliative care facility on Tuesday.

Furman was charged in the death of 85-year-old William May. The two shared a room in a dementia ward in Vernon for just three days.

The charge against Furman was eventually dropped when it was determined Furman was in a delusional state at the time, and was unfit to stand trial.

He was a decorated special forces soldier in WWII.
