Tennis pro Eugenie Bouchard calls Bieber her ideal date

TORONTO — Tennis pro Eugenie Bouchard, who became the first Canadian in three decades to make it to a Grand Slam semifinal, has set her sights on a different kind of match.

The Montreal native said Monday her ideal date would be Canadian pop star Justin Bieber.

“I like him, I like his songs, I think he has a lot of talent,” Bouchard, who beat Ana Ivanovic on Monday at the Australian Open, told CNN.

Is there a courtship in the works?

Both Bouchard and Bieber are 19 (she turns 20 less than a week before he does) and both know something about doing their best in front of large crowds.

Bieber’s mother Pattie Mallette is, like Bouchard, French Canadian.

And both Bouchard and Bieber know how to hit their targets.

Of course, Bieber has a reputation for raising a bit of a racket.

“For sure he’s doing some crazy teenage things,” Bouchard admitted, “but I think he’s really cool.”

Could Bieber return the affection? Indeed, he appears to have split again from his on-again, off-again girlfriend Selena Gomez.

So far, no comment from Bieber.

Perhaps Bouchard plans to string the Biebs along? After all, in tennis, love means nothing.
